Information Return is.

one of a number of returns that communicate to the U.S. Internal Revenue Service information relevant to tax liability but do not compute the actual liability of any taxpayer or accompany the actual payment of tax; used for dividends, sale of property, and other activities. Examples are Forms 1099 and W-2.
