Substantial Work

Substantial Work

Substantial Work means:
the extent of work that will result in discontinuation of Social Security payments under the disability program. The Social Security Administration also refers to substantial work as substantial gainful activity. “Substantial” indicates that the work involves productive physical or mental activities, and “gainful” means that the work is done for pay or profit. Normally, earnings of $500 or more a month constitute a substantial gainful activity. A determination by the Social Security Administration that the worker is engaged in a substantial gainful activity will not, however, affect any benefits the recipient may be receiving under the Supplemental Security Income program.
