About Taxpayer Assistance Order:

The Taxpayer Assistance Order (TAO) was a binding order issued by a problem resolution officer when the U.S. Internal Revenue Service is causing or is about to cause a significant hardship to a taxpayer. A TAO may order a stop to an U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) action or may require an action (e.g., issuance of a refund).
