Appeals Council

Appeals Council

Appeals Council means:
the third level of appeal for a person who disagrees with a Social Security Administration decision on a disability claim. If the Appeals Council determines that there is an issue the judge did not address at the lower appeal level, it will review the case. At this point, all levels of appeal within the Social Security Administration are exhausted. If the Appeals Council denies the review because it believes that all issues were addressed by the judge at the hearing level of appeal, or if the Appeals Council renders a decision with which a taxpayer disagrees, he or she must appeal to a federal civil court to continue the appeals process.
