Redemption

Redemption

Redemption means:
the acquisition by a corporation of its own stock in exchange for property, without regard to whether the redeemed stock is canceled, retired, or held as treasury stock. A redemption may be treated as an exchange of the stock for part or full payment (i.e., capital gain or loss), or it may be treated as a dividend. Exchange redemptions are described in Former IRC (check if this IRC provision is current here) §302 and §303.
